Artist Greg Benson ~ Harley Davidson Motorcycle Art Prints ~ Freedom Riders
Greg Benson took a winding road on his way to becoming a professional artist. Being self taught
Benson considers himself fortunate to have achieved such a large international following. "I paint
my memories and interests and collectors seem to connect with them," says Benson. Greg Benson’s
natural talent was evident at an early age but he had a variety of jobs before he decided to
concentrate solely on oil painting. He decided to supplement his income by teaching painting in
different school districts near his home and set up adult continuing education classes. After doing
well in a national art show, a publishing company offered to publish prints of one of Greg Benson’s
originals. Greg Benson then started his own publishing company and has continued to publish limited
edition prints since 1992. He makes appearances and exhibits his original oil paintings at select
fine art galleries and national art shows including shows in New York, Chicago and Atlanta.
“American Legends" click to view
"Wheels of Freedom" series. The many legends portrayed in this magnificent painting are not only
America's first sports car or examples from our oldest surviving motorcycle company, but also, if
you look closely you'll see other historic legends including the Native American Crazy Horse, a
Viking ship, and one of our country's true heroes, the fireman.
“Riders on the Storm” click to view
Lightning shimmers across the valley from the distant storm. Thunder will not stop the young couple
from taking a ride down the valley to enjoy activities at the county fair. There are many stories in
this panoramic landscape. A collie wanders on his own while his owners wonder where he is.
Motorcyclists are often thought of as living life on the edge like the hidden images in this
painting. These images are hidden in the painting for you to find - Marlon Brando as a post WWII
biker, two 1960's adventurers looking for America, a cowboy, and Native American leader Geronimo who
succeeded in evading federal authorities for 25 years. "Riders on the Storm" celebrates the
courageous individual who fearlessly follows his own path, and the warriors (Geronimo and the hidden
soldier in the storm), who's loyalty sends him, (and her), into harms way to do battle for others.
“American Iron” click to view
The whistle from the diesel locomotive echoes through the valley while people gather at a beautiful
riverside cabin. "American Iron" is a painting about the freedoms we enjoy in America, (Statue of
Liberty hidden in the tree above the gazebo). Freedoms hard won by previous Americans, (hidden image
above the cabin of Marines raising the American flag on Iwo Jima). Talk around the grill includes
stories of an annual pilgrimage to the Black Hills of South Dakota, (Mount Rushmore hidden in the
sky). The painting "American Iron" is not so much about the machines we build but the success
previous Americans had giving us the freedoms we enjoy today, including the freedom to ride!

“Freedom Riders” as seen below
A motorcycle rider crosses over the creek on a stone bridge to join a gathering of friends for an
evening of celebration. It is early and people have just started to arrive. The bonfire has been
lit. An example from the earliest days of motorcycling is already drawing people to the barn.
America's history of freedom and independence, (hidden images of Abraham Lincoln, George Washington
and Paul Revere in the trees), is demonstrated perfectly by the motorcycle and those that ride them,
and Greg Benson's powerful oil painting inspires us all to gather with friends and share our
experiences.
